1.0
Committee organization and procedures
1.1 Membership and attendance
Self-introductions were made, attendance taken, and it was determined
that a quorum was present. The Chairman stated that since Lockheed Sanders
missed the previous two meetings, they have been dropped from the active
member organization list.
1.2 Approval of the Agenda
The Committee unanimously accepted the agenda as presented.
1.3 Approval
of the Minutes
The minutes of the Wednesday, 25 April 2001 meeting held at the Hyatt
Hotel in San Antonio, TX were approved with some minor changes, mainly
correcting attendance at the last meeting. The corrections resulted
in moving Mr. Travis to the members-absent list and deleting Mr. Clark,
who did not attend.
1.4 Correspondence
No correspondence was received.
1.5 DSCC Report
No DSCC report.
2.0 Old business
2.1 EIA/IS-772, (SP-4920) "User's Application Guide to Fuses,"
Upgrade to ANSI Specification - Ballot results.
Ed Mikoski stated that the document would retain the designation 772
when changing from an Interim Standard to an ANSI Standard. He will
check on the status of the document.
2.2 EIA/IS-722,
(SP-4357-A) "Low Voltage Supplemental Fuse Qualification Specification."
Upgrade to ANSI Standard -
Ed Mikoski stated that the document would retain the designation 722
when changing from an Interim Standard to an ANSI Standard. He will
check on the status of the document.
2.3 Ad-Hoc Committee
updates
a) Mechanical Outlines
The P-4 committee will be putting mechanical outlines on-line. There
will be modifications to the numbering system; with one major change
being one character will signify whether the outline is for fuses, resistors,
capacitors, etc. There was further discussion during the P-4 meeting
earlier in the week.
b) PTC Document Status
The IEC document is reportedly in CD stage. Michael Maytum to verify
and provide IEC document numbers 40/1237/NP - Generic Specification,
and 40/1238/NP - Blank Detail Specification..
3.0 New business
3.1 New Projects
3.1.1 Surge Fuses - Discussion of comments received on PN-4951
There was much discussion on the draft. All of the comments received
were addressed, (comments and responses attached). Carl Lindquist will
use these comments to update the document and resubmit by November 1.
Responses to Comments:
1. The committee disagrees with the comment. UL 60950 and GR 1089 are
equipment specifications - not component specifications.
2. The committee disagrees with the comment, but will make a modification.
To make it clearer that the default is a Type II device, the following
statement will be added to the last line of the first paragraph in Section
1.1 Description.
"This specification is written as a Type 2 unless specifically
stated otherwise."
3. The committee disagrees with the comment. This specification is not
limited only to UL 60950 and GR 1089 applications.
4. The committee agrees with the comment and will change the document
accordingly.
5. The committee disagrees with the comment and will leave the clause
as written.
6. The committee disagrees with the comment. The Life Test can affect
resistance and opening times, but not short circuit performance.
7. The committee disagrees with the comment. The Life Test can affect
resistance and opening times, but not short circuit performance.
8. The committee disagrees with the comment. The Load Humidity, Moisture
Resistance, and Thermal Shock Tests can affect resistance and opening
times, but not short circuit performance.
9. The committee disagrees with the comment. The Load Humidity, Moisture
Resistance, and Thermal Shock Tests can affect resistance and opening
times, but not short circuit performance.
10. The committee agrees with the comment and will change the document
accordingly.
11. The committee disagrees with the comment. The Mechanical Shock,
Vibrations, and Resistance to Solvents Tests can affect resistance and
opening times, but not short circuit performance.
12. The committee disagrees with the comment. The Mechanical Shock,
Vibrations, and Resistance to Solvents Tests can affect resistance and
opening times, but not short circuit performance
13. The committee agrees with the comment and will change the document
accordingly.
14. The committee disagrees with the comment and will leave the clause
as written.
15. The committee disagrees with the comment and will leave the clause
as written.
16. The committee agrees with the comment and will remove reference
to KeyTek.
17. The committee disagrees with the comment and will leave the clause
as written.
18. The committee agrees in concept with the comment, but will change
the reference to Table 1.
19. The committee agrees with the comment and will change the document
accordingly.
20. The committee disagrees with the comment and will leave the clause
as written.
21. The committee disagrees with the comment and will leave the clause
as written.
22. The committee agrees with the comment and will change the document
so that the bracketed text will also apply to copper thickness, "o".
23. The committee disagrees with the comment and will leave the clause
as written. This is addressed in comments 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, and 12.
The issue of opening
time limits was brought up for 250 and 300 % overloads. There was no
resolution as to what they should be and this was complicated by the
fact that GR 1089 states that for 2 minutes the maximum current should
be no more than 2.5 amps. The typical 1.25 amp fuse if considered as
a type II would stay at 3.125 amp and should open in 2 minutes thus
exceeding the 2.5 amp maximum.
3.1.2 Polymer

No Report
3.1.3 Other ideas?
One agenda item the next meeting will address the development of a technology
roadmap.
3.2 Chair Selection
Chairman Bill Travis announced that he was stepping down as the Chairman
of P-14. Nominations were selected from the floor and Diane Bicknese
was unanimously voted as the Chairperson and accepted the responsibility.
4.0 Selection

NM at the Sheraton Old Town Hotel.
