1.0 Committee organization and procedures
1.1 Approval of the Agenda

Add under 3.0 an update on committee reaffirmation votes. Agenda was unanimously approved.

60446:7/01
1.2 Membership and attendance

Self-introductions were made, attendance taken, and it was determined that a quorum was present. The attendance roster and the CTA roster are in process of being updated to reflect the most current members present. All attendees verified the correctness of the information on the rosters.

There were some committee membership changes: Techneglas member will change from Tom Watson to Larry Schmid. Action item

The Committee was reminded of the Committee membership rule, which states that if a member misses two consecutive meetings, then at the third missed meeting, the member is moved from the membership list to the non-voting CTA list. The member will be re-instated at the next meeting attended. This rule comes from EIA EP-20-A, "Manual of Organization & Procedure," December 2000, Section 4.6.1.1 Meeting Quorum Pool (page 17-18), which states that: -

A meeting quorum pool is defined as those members eligible to vote at a meeting:

a) If a voting member is not represented at two consecutive meetings and the absence continues for the subsequent meetings, the member shall be removed from the Meeting Quorum Poll for the subsequent meetings. Upon attendance at a subsequent meeting the member shall be reinstated in the Meeting Quorum Poll and have full voting privileges at that meeting.

1.3 Approval of the Minutes

Motion to approve JT-32 minutes from meeting No. 75 1/2001 in Scottsdale. Seconded. Motion carried to approve minutes as presented.

1.4 Correspondence

No correspondence was received.

1.5 EDSC

EDSC report: There may be an EDSC meeting, if needed, at the 9/2001 Corning meetings.
Committee Coordination: - Most JT-32 members were in attendance at the earlier JT-6 & JT-31 meetings.

2.0 International Safety Standards
2.1 IEC 61965 Impact Testing Standards Status

IEC 61965 rev-1.0 was approved in 8/2000. IEC-61965, Ed 2 is currently being circulated as a committee draft. It is a necessary update and more complete document than rev-1.0. In order to expedite the approval of Ed 2 of IEC-61965, rev-1.0 was withdrawn. This will allow a quicker review and passage of Ed 2, which could then be on the TC-39 web site as early as Spring 2002. A copy of IEC-61965 Ed 2 should be sent to each JT-32 committee member in time for the comment period ending about 6/30/2001. Action Item

2.2 Laminated film on CRT Faceplate / IEC-WG-2
TC39/WG2 meet in Scottsdale, Arizona in conjunction with the JT-32 meeting.

2.3 IEC/TC-39WG2 / X-Radiation Standard Task Force Report

There is continuing discussion led by Mike Chenoweth regarding cabinet design and measurements. There are differences between the UL-1418 and IEC standards. The goal of the committee is to harmonize the UL and IEC X-Radiation standards. In Mike Chenoweth's absence, Bill Rowe gave a brief presentation on some of the issues involved in generalizing the EIA computational method to higher voltages using the more exact beamline mass absorption constants calculated by the XCOM program. A copy of Bill Rowe's presentation is attached to the minutes. Action Item

A Task Group consisting of Bob Tolliver, Bill Rowe, and Mike Chenoweth will work on this issue prior to the 9/2001 JT-32 meeting in order to be prepared for the IEC/TC39/WG2 meeting in October.

3.0 Standards and document review

Michael Tinkleman reported that all four of JT-32's EIA-500 series of Recommended Practices for Measurements have been reaffirmed. They are: -
- EIA-500-A, "Recommended Practice for Measurement of X-Radiation from Projection Cathode Ray Tubes."
- EIA-501-A, "Recommended Practice for Measurement of X-Radiation from Raster-Scanned Direct-View Data Display Cathode Ray Tubes."
- EIA-502-A, "Recommended Practice for Measurement of X-Radiation from Non-Raster-Scanned Direct-View Cathode Ray Tubes."
- EIA-503-A, "Recommended Practice for Measurement of X-Radiation from Direct-View Television Picture Tubes."

4.0 Environmental issues

None to discuss.

5.0 New Business

No new business was offered.

6.0 Next Meeting

The next meeting will be at the Radisson Hotel in Corning, New York on Tuesday September 12, 2001. The September 12th date was not available at the hotel. Therefore, the meeting date was changed to September 21, 2001 at the same location.

7.0 Adjournment

The committee moved, seconded, and unanimously agreed to adjourn at 2:13 PM.

8.0 Action Items
