1.0 Committee Organization and Membership

1.1 Agenda additions, changes and priorities

1.1.1 There were no changes to the preliminary agenda.

1.2 Membership Changes
1.2.1 Rob Taylor is to replace Bill McLaughlin as the primary representative for Schott Glass.
1.2.2 ECA to check on replacing the previous rep from Philips who has retired. Philips has no participation in the JT committees.

1.3 Approval of minutes from June meeting
1.3.1 The minutes of the 0 June 2001 meeting in San Jose, CA were unanimously approved with the following modifications: Item 5 New Business, change typo. 'form companies' to 'from companies'.
1.3.2 Also, it was agreed that a copy of EIA 552 would be distributed to the committee for determination of future action since it was not attached to the minutes. The document will be discussed in detail at the Jan-Feb 2002 meeting.

1.4 Correspondence
1.4.1 There was no official correspondence to the committee since the last meeting.

1.5 Committee Coordination
1.5.1 The WTDS and IEC TC39 will be meeting in Vancouver the first week of October to discuss registrations. Working Group WG2 will be discussing X radiation and laminates.
1.5.2 There was no interest by JT 31 to meet during this time frame in Corning in conjunction with JT-6 and JT-32. JT-31 plans to meet May 2002 in Boston in conjunction with the SID show.

2.0 International Standards
2.1 The WTDS program needs to be coordinated with ECA Standards and Technology Department. Updates to the US registration should be routinely distributed to the committee members.
2.2 The IEC document on CRT Mechanical Safety ; IEC 61965 is in the process of being adopted by UL and CSA. Laminates will come out as an addendum to the standard. The subject will be discussed at the upcoming meeting in Vancouver.
2.3 The CSA adoption of the IEC standard is out. The UL adoption is expected later this month.
2.4 A Binational Standard will be available sometime in 2003. Users will have the options of which document to pick to use until that time. Universal recognition of testing and certifications is the final goal.

3.0 Standards and Document review

3.1 Report on Voting on TEP-106C

3.1.1 Mikoski will work with the Chairman to determine the final tally.

3.2 Report on voting on TEP-102-A
3.2.1 The period for voting should be closed. Chairman Swank will begin resolution of any comments.

3.3 WTDS Electronic Registry Proposal
3.3.1 The committee wishes to pursue the possibility of an electronic registration process for the WTDS. This would appear on the ECA website. Rob Taylor will work with Ed Mikoski to determine feasibility. The template from ECA should be compared with others being developed such as the JEITA version.

3.4 Update of EIA-552, "EIA Standards for Electron Tubes"

3.4.1 This document is to be distributed to the committee members for their review and determination as to disposition; reaffirmation, revision, or withdrawal.

4.0 Task Force for Machine readable Glass Markings

4.1 No action has taken place since the last meeting. The subject of machine-readable glass markings such as laser etching is a subject of interest. Due to priorities, the activity has been dormant, but will remain on the agenda and activate sometime in 2002. Brian McDaniel will look into obtaining the previous Task Group meeting minutes and report at the next meeting.

5.0 Surface Compression of True Flat CRT's

5.1 How does one define surface compression? Chairman Swank will put together a proposal for the next meeting. In theory, high surface compression technology will reduce weight through reduction of the thickness of the panel, but some way is needed to measure from an implosion susceptibility point of view. Rob Taylor will present a laser scattered polarimetric process for measurement of high surface compression at the next meeting.

6.0 New Business

6.1 The ECA Website is a valuable tool for members. Suggestions were made to establish links on the site to JEITA, ProElectron in Europe, and the Korean equivalent of the tube activities.

6.2 The Electron Tube and Glass Registration program is considered a very important function and therefore, the committee agreed to have a one day special task group meeting on the subject to be held at EIA headquarters in Arlington, VA. The tentative date will be 14 NOV 2001. The group will review the present status of the program, procedures and determine possible improvements to be presented at the Jan-Feb meeting of JT-6 in Scottsdale.

7.0 Next Meeting

7.1 The Special Task Group on Registration plans to meet at EIA headquarters Wed 14 NOV 2001.

7.2 The next full committee meeting is tentatively scheduled in conjunction with JT-32. To be held at the Chaparral Suites in Scottsdale, AZ either Mon-Tues 28 & 29 JAN 2002 or as a backup date Thurs Fri 1 & 2 Feb 2002. Mikoski will work with ECA staff to arrange for the hotel and report back to the chairman.
