1 Committee organization and procedures

1.1 Membership and attendance

Self-introductions were made, attendance taken, and it was determined that a quorum was present.

1.2 Approval of the Agenda
The Committee unanimously accepted the Agenda as presented.

1.3 Approval of the Minutes
The Committee unanimously accepted the Minutes of the last meeting as written.

1.4 Correspondence
NOTE-Ms Kris Shirley (joins ECA on 30 May 2000, whose email address will be either kriss@eia.org or kshirley@eia.org) will be the person responsible for the ECA web page and Mr. Ray Tekin (rayt@eia.org) is responsible for the web MS Access-based database. The ECA site is http://www.ec-central.org.

1.5 Review of the Committee's scope
No review was needed.

1.6 International standards
Mr. Friedrich informed Mr. Swank that the IEC registration document and mechanical safety (39/246/CDV) has been sent to Geneva. The IEC safety committee may be combined with another committee.

2 Old business

2.1 TEP106-C, Worldwide type designation system

The document was discussed. Mr. Rowe recommended that equations be substituted for actual drawing similar to EIAJ registration. Mr. Goldman requested that information on registrations be available on a web-based database. Discussion continued on anode connectors (buttons), projection tube, and ITC description. Some items will be tabled for later inclusion in revision D. The current plan is to provide information to Mr. Rowe by 15 July 2000. It was moved and seconded to ballot TEP-106-C.

ACTION ITEM-Resolve the number classification and related style with standard IEC form/style and share this with Mr. Rowe by 15 June 2000.

2.2 EIA-301B, Type designation system for electron tubes
The Committee has previously proposed, seconded, and voted unanimously to archive the document.

2.3 SP-2647, The glossary of cathode ray tube terms and definitions
The document was thoroughly discussed, revised, added-to, and proposed to be ANSI-balloted. The committee unanimously approved the balloting of the revised document. Messrs Rowe and Ehemannn will provide a clean copy of the document for balloting.

2.4 Task force for machine-readable glass markings
Mr. Watson reported that more testing will be needed to standardize the process. Mr. Sgambelluri reported that efforts are continuing in the application to two product lines. The need to establish a minimum quality measurement. There is also a need to develop a third party source.
Mr. Goldman voiced concern about the timing of implementation of the mark; the industry would like to know the transition time for this new technology. Mr. Watson stated that no exact time frame is foreseen pending improved standardization and save Sony, the industry may start implementation 18 mos to 1 y. The driving forces will probably be economic and manufacture process traceability.

ACTION ITEM-Mr. Aronson will send EIA documents on bar coding related to the use of the mark to Mr. Watson.

3 New business
No new business was offered.

4 Selection of next meetings
Monday-Tuesday, 12-13 Sept. 2000 was preferred by the Committee for the next meeting in Corning using the present schedule as Long Beach, California.

5 Adjournment
The Committee moved, seconded, and unanimously agreed to adjourn at 3:45 PM.

6 Action items
- Mr. Aronson will ascertain why Mr. Taylor is missing from the mailing list.
- Resolve the number classification and related style with standard IEC form/style and share this with Mr. Rowe by 15 June 2000.
