Since its inception as a trade association in May
of 1947, RSIA has clearly been a key factor in the advancement of all
aspects of the relay industry as exemplified by its historical accomplishments.
RSIA is unique as it is made up of "doers" of the industry
from all sizes of companies; yet each member is willing to help one
another, doing so openly and expecting nothing in return. RSIA offers
its members an opportunity to keep current with all aspects of this
fascinating industry through available information and participated
in the various programs. The organization serves as a clearing house
for information about the many government directives concerning the
relay industry as well as promoting the establishment of relay standards
and specifications. Therefore, membership in RSIA adds up to the chance
to meet, work with and get to know the important people in the relay
industry while furthering industry as a whole. Currently, RSIA offers
two membership categories; "Regular Membership" and "Associate
Technical Membership".
The Annual International Relay Conference sponsored by RSIA each year
is the world from for technical discussion on relay technology. This
conference has been existence for 50 years with technical presentations
by engineers on state of the art relay technology.
In addition RSIA pioneered a text book for relay users titled "Engineers
Relay Handbook". This is the only text book designed for the relay
user covering subjects such as Relay Terminology, Common Uses of Relays,
Principles of Electromechanical Relay Operations, Application Circuits,
Contact Materials, Performance, Use, Testing Procedures, Standards,
Government Specifications Commercial Industrial Specifications, Relay
Quality Assurance & Control, Relay Reliability, Reed Relays, Mercury
Wetted Relays, Solid State Relays, Precautions in Relay Application,
Bibliography, and Useful Reference Tables & Formulas. The Engineers
Relay Handbook is considered the bible of the industry for relays.
On January 1, 1991, RSIA became affiliated with the Electronic Industries
Association (EIA). This affiliation provides RSIA's present and future
members with the power and business opportunities of an association
with 1,200+ companies while retaining RSIA's autonomy as the Relay Division
of the Components Group of EIA.
At the start of its fifth decade-RSIA remains dedicated to the advancement
of the art and science of making and using those switching devices generally
known as relays. The present-day membership consists of the premier
relay manufacturers worldwide and associate technical members who are
dedicated to the founding principles as set forth in 1947.
